Background of the Study
Data privacy refers to the protection of personal data and information from unauthorized access or disclosure. In secondary schools across Nigeria, students’ personal data, including academic records, health information, and contact details, are often collected and stored. As digital technologies become increasingly integrated into education systems, the amount of personal data being collected from students continues to grow. However, the practices surrounding the collection, storage, and protection of this data are often not well understood or regulated.
In Jalingo, Taraba State, the adoption of digital systems for managing student information in secondary schools is on the rise. These systems provide conveniences but also present potential risks to the privacy of students’ personal data. Ensuring that these data are adequately protected requires a thorough understanding of existing data privacy practices among school administrators, teachers, and students. This study aims to investigate the current data privacy practices in secondary schools within Jalingo Local Government Area, focusing on the policies and measures in place to safeguard students’ personal information.
